Dina Apple is a performer, choreographic improviser, and dance artist who enjoys collaborating with people of various expertise to create new performative works of art and to consider harmonious ways of living. With every interaction, she learns more about herself, humans, and the world with which we are entangled.
She has performed and created dances throughout the United States, Europe, and Mexico with Leslie Seiters/little known dance theater, collaborative dance theater LIVE, somebodies dance theatre, Wallpaper Performance Co., Lux Boreal Danza Contemporanea, Funkanometry SD, Garage Contemporary Ballet, and SDSU’s University Dance Company. Additionally, Dina has performed in works by Erin Tracy, Mark Haim, Eric Geiger, Kyle Sorensen, Karen Schaffman, Kevin Jenkins, and Ash Eliza Smith, among others. Her choreography for theatre credits include Hamlet (UCSD), and Dance of the Holy Ghosts (Oakland Theater Project).
Dina’s interest in cross-disciplinary collaboration has led her to co-found the performance ensembles Odd & Even (improvisational music, dance, & text), In Time & Space Projects (music, dance, video improvisation), and The Third Thing (dance-plays) where she has delved into creative inquiry and live art-making with musicians, visual artists, playwrights, filmmakers, designers, and actors. Her current interests include the questions and practices of social choreography, the hidden potent value of stranger-ness, and dance as responsive and instigative humanity.
She has an MFA in Dance Theatre from the University of California San Diego and a BFA in Dance from San Diego State University. Dina has attended the Ricean School of Dance (RSOD), a school without teachers coordinated by Vitoria Kotsalou and Michael Kliën in Hydra, Greece.
